How You Can Help at the Literacy Garden
Together we can build the Literacy Garden!
We are currently looking for volunteers to help with the following:
1. Fundraising: You can help us raise $100 or more by donating or holding small parties and events in your neighborhood, selling beaded maasai jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, keychains etc that we can send to you from Kenya), garage sales etc. All funds raised go towards building the different items at the garden including the farm kitchen, skating paths, basketball court, literacy circles, reading nests, rain harvesting systems, etc...
2. Program Assistants: You can travel to Kenya and volunteer with us for one week or more supporting children at the Literacy Garden. Duties include teaching literacy skills, reading to children, organizing writing and reading competitions/challenges, spelling bees, music and drama/oral narratives, plays and poems, keyboard lessons, drum sets, permaculture/gardening, composting/vermicomposting, counseling girls on early marriages and teen pregnancy, life skills, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, conservation/ tree planting/waste recycling/etc...
There is always enough work for everyone and we encourage volunteers from all walks of life to join us and make this dream possible for underprivileged girls to achieve their dreams.
We have designated the following dates for these trips:

The farm at the site is already well established. In this role, you will assist with cultivating land to be farmed for various crops, and the general maintenance of the farm. The farm relies heavily on manual labour to function, so this is an important role. If you are knowledgeable about agriculture, you may be able to concurrently take up a management-type role and assist with increasing the farm's productivity. We are always open to new innovation. If you are interested in taking up this role, it may be prudent for you to combine your work at the Literacy Garden with work at the Obunga Demonstration Farm. Particularly if you are knowledgeable about agriculture, you may be able to assist us with the management of both of these projects.
