What an incredible end to our August 2025 holiday STEM Camp! Over the past 2 weeks, 180 students from Grade 1–12 at our AkiliSTEMarts Academy have been learning, creating, and building innovations for a water secure future during this August school break. Students showcased their projects before parents, judges from Future Infinities, and teachers a powerful reminder of what happens when rural students are given the opportunity to explore technology. From Arduino-powered water kiosks and smart irrigation systems, to robotics for flood safety and Scratch games on water security, their creativity and problem-solving skills were nothing short of remarkable! This camp not only nurtured innovation but also equipped both students and teachers with the confidence, creativity, and hands-on STEM skills needed to tackle real-world challenges.

The transformation of rural education through technology is gaining momentum. In our second capacity-building session, educators explored tools like, generative #AI for lesson planning text-to-speech for accessibility, and smart exam analysis for data-driven instruction —all through hands-on, and practicals; reimagining teaching to make it more efficient, inclusive, and impactful. Every session brings us closer to bridging the digital divide and unlocking new possibilities for students in rural communities.

Riley Orton Foundation Wins 2024 Global E-STEM Award
The Riley Orton Foundation (ROF) has been selected by Pratt & Whitney and the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) as one of the winners of the 2024 Global E-STEM Awards. The E-STEM Awards bestowed grants totaling $250,000 to 14 nonprofit organizations in 11 countries, demonstrating remarkable commitment to advancing environmental, science, technology, engineering, and math (E-STEM) education programs for underrepresented students ages 11–22. Through the Global E-STEM Awards. The Riley Orton Foundation's Climate Solutions project will train 500 students in rural Kenya to design solar-powered water purifiers, using STEM workshops to teach renewable energy and promote sustainability. This initiative is especially important as these students live in an area that struggles with access to clean water, and by teaching them about renewable energy and water purification technologies, the organization hopes to equip them with the knowledge and skills to address this critical issue and foster a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability.
