Expanding access to quality education, STEM & AI opportunities, and economic resilience
ROF implements three core transformative programs aimed at expanding educational access, fostering STEM engagement, equipping teachers with modern pedagogical skills, and empowering rural girls, women and youth with vocational training. Our programs are designed to bridge the gender and digital divide in rural Kenya, ensuring that girls and marginalized students have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. They include;
1. STEM Education & Mentorship:
Our flagship initiative is the Akili STEMarts Academy, a STEAM learning hub that provides students and teachers from underserved rural schools access to STEAM education resources, AI tools, and robotics. The academy serves as a resource center where students participate in hands-on training in digital storytelling, coding/scratch programming, robotics, artificial intelligence, Internet of things (IoT) using arduino, engineering concepts and climate entrepreneurship through STEM clubs and camps. Through our expanding STEM mentorship program, we are reaching students across rural schools, guiding them through AI and machine learning fundamentals. This program also includes teacher training on gender responsive STEM pedagogy, digital teaching tools, and AI-powered education platforms to improve classroom instruction and student engagement.

2. Material Support & Scholarships:
To support the educational advancement of underprivileged students, we provide essential material support to ensure school retention and academic success. Our initiatives include distributing school uniforms to remove financial barriers and increase transition from primary to high school, providing bicycles to help girls in remote areas commute to school safely and eliminate transactional sex for lifts to school, and supplying sanitary towels to ensure girls remain in class without interruptions. We also offer high school and tertiary education scholarships to marginalized students, prioritizing those from rural areas and urban slums.

3. Vocational Training & Economic Empowerment:
In addition to academic support, ROF strengthens the economic resilience of rural youth by offering vocational training programs. These programs focus on digital literacy and fashion & design, equipping young people, particularly young women, with the technical and entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to establish micro-enterprises, access online job platforms, and build sustainable livelihoods.
