Literacy Garden Progress Report February 2018
By David Omondi on February 5, 2018
Dear Partners,
Happy New Year to you all!
It has been great joy partnering with you to provide access to education for marginalized girls in Kisumu. We take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for giving towards this project. Fundraising has been really difficult but we are grateful to you for going out of your way to give specifically to our project.
Although we didn't meet our fundraising goal, we have been doing all we can to get this project going on. We have received a 10,000 litre water tank that was previously helping at the Akili Girls School. We plan to use it to harvest rain water to be used in the garden.
with the $1200 you helped us raise, we have bought blocks to builda book store where we are going to keep story books which the girls can borrow and read in the garden. The book store roof will be used to harvest rain water to fill the tank.
We are also digging holes for planting trees, clearing the compund and leveling the ground for basketball court and digging holes for fencing posts. Next week, we are purchasing chain link to protect the farm from stray goats and cows.
Our nternational volunteer Libby is on the ground and has been working with our local volunteer Rose to teach the girls storytelling, reading and writing.
We will keep raising funds and gradually build this program which is vital in empowering marginalized rural girls.
Thank you for walking this journey with us
God bless you
